Everything you need to know about the Blue Chip+ bundle

Who can use this bundle?

This bundle is currently only available in South Africa and Nigeria, on web or app version 8.88.0 or above.

Luno has built the Blue Chip+ bundle to offer you a simple way to participate in both traditional and digital markets within a single investment vehicle. Blue Chip+ connects the two worlds, bringing together the stability of leading US tokenised stocks and the growth potential of established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. This bundle is designed for customers who want a smarter, simplified way to invest in both crypto and xStocks, taking advantage of long-term growth while managing risk.

What is the Blue Chip+ bundle?

The Blue Chip+ bundle is a one-click investment solution that bridges the gap between traditional finance and the crypto world. It combines market-leading tokenised tech stocks with crypto assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, offering broad market exposure in a single, simple investment.

The goal is simple: balance risk and reward. You get access to the stable leadership of global tech companies alongside the innovation of the crypto market, all in one investment.

Which assets make up the bundle?

We’ve designed the Blue Chip+ allocation to capture the leaders of both tech and crypto, selected based on market capitalisation.

70% is made up of the top 7 US Tech Stocks, equally weighted at 10% each:

  • NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA)
  • Alphabet, Inc. (GOOGL)
  • Apple Inc. (AAPL)
  • Microsoft Corporation (MSFT)
  • Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN)
  • Meta Platforms, Inc. (META)
  • Broadcom Inc (AVGO)

30% Crypto:

  • Bitcoin (BTC) - 20%
  • Ethereum (ETH) - 10%

This split is carefully chosen to balance your risk versus reward. While the exact allocation may shift slightly as markets move, the strategy remains focused on delivering the best of both worlds.

Blue Chip+ makes diversification effortless, so you can invest in top-performing tech giants and leading cryptocurrencies without the need to monitor individual assets or manage a complex portfolio.

What happens during bundle rebalancing?

To keep your portfolio aligned with that ideal 70/30 split, Luno automatically rebalances your bundle on the last business day of each quarter. Quarters follow the standard calendar year, not the financial year.

Rebalancing adjusts the proportions of each asset to maintain the intended allocation, ensuring your investment continues to follow the bundle’s strategy, even as market values fluctuate.

Think of this as a rules-based "health check" for your investment.

For example, if Bitcoin grows to more than 30% of your portfolio, the bundle will trim the excess during the scheduled quarterly rebalance and redistribute it into other assets in the bundle that make up a smaller share at that time.

This helps keep your portfolio aligned with its target mix and diversified over time. Rebalancing is based on the relative weight of assets in the bundle, not on whether prices are high or low across the broader market.

What are the trading hours for this bundle?

What is 'rebalancing' and how often does it happen?

Rebalancing is an automated, quarterly process that resets your investment back to its strategic 70/30 asset split. Rebalancing ensuring your bundle stays aligned with its original target allocation. If any asset grows to take up more than its intended share, it’s trimmed back and the proceeds are reinvested in other assets in the bundle. This keeps your portfolio true to the mix you signed up for, without any manual effort, even as individual assets shift in value over time.

What are the main costs associated with the Blue Chip+ bundle?

The two primary costs are:

  • Transaction cost: 1% of the investment amount to cover any price changes between starting and confirming the transaction.
  • Tracking fee (2% per annum): This fee covers both the management and the automated quarterly rebalancing of the bundle.
