Which identity documents are accepted for verification?

If we need you to provide us with an identity document for verification purposes, these are the documents we accept in each of our supported countries.

When submitting, please make sure you provide a clear, colour photo of the document.   

South Africa

Accepted documents:

  • National identity card (front and back)
  • National ID book
  • Driving licence
  • Valid South African passport

Malaysia

Accepted documents:

  • Malaysian identity card (MyKad)

Indonesia

If you're a citizen of Indonesia, we'll accept:

  • E-KTP (Electronic National identity card: E- Kartu Tanda Penduduk)
  • KTP (expired) & Letter applying for E-KTP (photo, official letterhead, stamped)

If you're not a citizen of Indonesia, we'll need both of these documents:

  1. Your valid passport
  2. Your valid residence permit or visa (KITAP or KITAS or ITAS)
    • This could be: Permanent, Spousal, Study, Work, Pension, or the pink E-KTP permanent residence card (E-KTP WNA)

Nigeria

Accepted documents:

  • National identity card (front and back)
  • Electronic identity card
  • Voter's Card (green) / Permanent Voter's Card
  • Nigerian driving licence
  • Valid Nigerian passport

Kenya

Accepted documents: 

  • National ID card
  • Valid Kenyan passport
  • Valid Kenyan driver's license

Uganda

Accepted documents:

  • Valid Ugandan passport
  • National ID

Note

We don't accept temporary identity documents for South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya or Uganda.

Uploading your selfie

To ensure the safety of your Luno account, we may require additional proof of identity in the form of a self-portrait photo. Take an in-app selfie or upload an existing photo (taken the same day you submit) using your web browser. Please ensure that the image is in colour and that your face is clearly visible in the photo.

Not a local citizen?

Foreign residents living in the above supported countries can also sign up for Luno, with some additional documentation required. Find our foreign resident requirements here.
