The Exchange interface explained

The Luno Exchange consists of the following components:

  • Order book

  • Tradingview and depth chart

  • Recent trades

  • Place order ticket

  • Open orders and trades summary

  • Currency pairs

The order book displays the current resting orders in the market. Red represents the sell orders (or asks) and the green represents the buy orders (or bids).

As traders place buy and sell orders in the market at different prices, the order book is updated. Orders are executed when a buyer meets a seller (or vice versa). When you view the order book, the spread represents the difference between the highest bid and the lowest ask.

There are two chart views you can toggle between on the web:

Tradingview

This provides a selection of different indicators and chart types including Line and Candle. The default view is a Candlestick chart but has a wide range of other options and indicators such as Moving Averages and Volume.

Tip

Change the chart type view by selecting the  candle chart  icon on the web (top left) or the  bar graph  icon on mobile (bottom left).

Depth chart

The recent trades section lists the most recent trades executed in the market chronologically. The three columns represent the time, price and volume of each trade.

The dynamic order ticket is used for placing orders. When an order is placed, it goes to the order book and the open orders list. As the order fills, you can check its progress in the Open Order Section or in the My Orders screen.

If you select a sell order in the order book, the order ticket will auto-populate to match those orders and buy the BTC available up to the specific ask price.

Similarly, if you click on a buy order in the order book, the order form will auto-populate to match those orders and sell your BTC down to the specific bid price.

Once you've placed a limit order, it will be displayed in the Open Orders section and on the order book denoted by an asterisk*. From here, you can stop these orders if they haven’t yet executed.

For example, if you’re verified to use Luno in South Africa, you’ll have the option to toggle the currency pairs between BTC/ZAR, ETH/BTC and ETH/ZAR.

Here’s how

Mobile

Open the app and select the home screen with Exchange view enabled. Use the currency pair selector in the upper left corner of the screen.

Web

Access the pairs that are available to you from the currency pair selector in the top left corner or from the Markets screen, which can be found in the top menu bar.
