Luno asked me to share my location. Why?

You might’ve recently been asked to provide Luno with access to your current location, or you may have been unable to complete a transaction because of your location or permission settings.

This article will answer any questions you might have about sharing your location with Luno.

What do you use my location information for?

We check your location to make sure you’re not using Luno in a sanctioned country or in a region that is not supported by Luno.

Note

Your data is protected and encrypted, and you can control when and how you share your location in your device settings. For more information on how we gather, use, and secure your personal data, check out our Privacy Policy.

Why do you have to check that I’m in a supported region?

At Luno, we’re committed to making sure that cryptocurrency is used in a way that’s safe, secure, and also legally compliant. Before we launch our services in a new region, we first make sure that we’re properly set up to operate there.

The crypto industry has historically been unregulated, but that’s quickly changing, and we want to be at the forefront of that change.

Tip

You can learn more about Luno’s approach to ensuring compliance in the industry.

You might think that it’s a bit strange for cryptocurrency, which is decentralised, to abide by regulations set by various authorities. But we believe that regulation is a good thing: it protects you, our customers, and inspires greater trust in the crypto industry as a whole.

Tip

Visit the Luno blog to read more about our views on regulation.
