I'm buying or selling crypto in Indonesia. What does the 'high volatility' note mean?

Does this apply to me?

Only if your Luno account is verified in Indonesia.

In line with our commitment to comply with regulations set out by the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (BAPPEBTI) in Indonesia, we’ve implemented a high volatility message for our Indonesian customers.

If you’re a Luno customer in Indonesia, either:

  • buying or selling crypto from your Wallets screen,

  • or trading any crypto/crypto or IDR/crypto pairs on the Luno Exchange,

you may see a high volatility note displayed to you before you confirm your buy or sell transaction.

What is this note about?

This note is there to inform you about slippage. Slippage refers to the difference between the expected price of a trade (crypto buy or sell transaction) and the actual price you pay when the trade executes.

When does slippage occur?

Slippage happens during times of high volatility in the market: when the price of crypto changes dramatically over a short period of time.

What does it mean for me?

In times of high volatility in the market, prices change very quickly. In the time it takes to complete your buy or sell transaction, the price you pay may be different from what was displayed to you on the confirmation screen.

The ‘high volatility’ note is just to make you aware if there is indeed high volatility at the time you’re transacting, and that the price may be higher or lower when your actual transaction is completed.
