Which countries can I use my Luno account in?

illustration of a globe

Luno is available in 40+ countries around the globe, and we’re always working to extend support to more places each year. At the same time, there are a few countries where, for a number of reasons, we’re not able to offer our services.

Here’s a breakdown of the different countries Luno is supported in, as well as those we’re not.

Supported countries

These are the regions and countries where Luno has an official presence.

Global region

Supported countries in that region

Africa

  • Nigeria

  • Uganda

  • South Africa

Asia-Pacific

  • Australia

  • Indonesia

  • Malaysia

Europe

What this means

  • You can sign up for a Luno account if you’re a citizen or resident of one of these countries, and you can use your Luno wallets to buy, sell, send, receive, and store cryptocurrency

  • You can deposit and withdraw local currency with a bank account in your name opened in one of these countries

Unsupported countries

These are the countries and territories where Luno services are not available.

  • Algeria

  • Bangladesh

  • China

  • Cuba

  • Egypt

  • Iran

  • Iraq

  • Morocco

  • Nepal

  • North Korea

  • Qatar

  • Russia

  • Saudi Arabia

  • Syria

  • Tunisia

  • Ukraine

What this means

  • You can’t sign up for a Luno account if you’re in one of these countries or regions

  • If you signed up in a supported country, but you’re currently travelling in or you’ve moved to an unsupported country, you won’t be able to make transactions with your Luno account while you’re there

Other country restrictions

  • Customers in Nigeria can only sign in to accounts that are verified in Nigeria

  • New customers in the Netherlands won't be able to sign up for a Luno account

  • Customers in Croatia and Bulgaria won't be able to deposit Euros via bank transfer to their Luno account or withdraw Euros from their Luno account. You will still be able to buy crypto instantly using card payments, and trade, sell, send or receive crypto.

Frequently asked questions

There are a few different reasons why we might not support the use of a Luno account in a certain country or region:

  • It may appear on one or more economic sanctions lists,

  • its regulators, central bank or government may have banned cryptocurrency usage, or

  • it otherwise falls outside of Luno’s risk appetite to facilitate transactions to, from, or in that region.

That depends on where you’re currently located, and how long you’ll be staying there.

If you’re located in one of the unsupported countries listed above:

  • You’ll be restricted from transacting with your Luno account

  • Your account’s functionality will be restored once you’ve left the unsupported region

If you’re in a country that is not listed as an unsupported country:

  • You can continue using Luno as normal for up to three months of travel

  • After three months outside the country you signed up in, you’ll need to re-verify your profile for the new country you’re in to continue using your Luno account. If you don’t want to re-verify, you’ll only be able to use your account again when you’re back in the country your account was originally verified for

You’ll not be able to make transactions with your Luno wallets while located in an unsupported country. In this case, there are two options available to you.

Option 1:

If you’re only staying in the country temporarily, you’re free to keep your funds in your wallets. They’ll remain secure, and once you return home or leave the unsupported country, full functionality will be restored.

Option 2:

If you’d like to remove the funds from your Luno account, or if you’ve permanently relocated to an unsupported country, contact our support team here. We can facilitate a once-off withdrawal of your funds, either to a bank account registered in your name or, if that’s not possible, to a crypto address reviewed and approved by our team.
