Guidance for customers in regions where Luno no longer provides service

You may have received communications about Luno no longer providing services in your region from 1 September 2026, or you've lost access to your account since that date. This article explains what happened and how to retrieve any unclaimed funds.

Timeline of events

These are the key dates and communication timelines leading up to the closure of Luno accounts in your country.

  • May 2026: Luno made the difficult decision to wind down services in your region so we could fully focus on our core markets across Africa and South East Asia.
  • 29 May - 2 June: We sent emails and in-app notifications announcing the change to all impacted customers, giving 3 month's notice to clear funds ahead of the final withdrawal deadline.
  • 4 June - 22 June: Weekly reminders sent to all impacted customers via email and push notification, informing you that crypto sends would be disabled on 29 June
  • 2 July - 25 August: Additional weekly reminders to withdraw funds before the end of August.
  • 28 August: Final reminders sent.
  • 31 August: All impacted customer accounts in your region were closed and you can no longer sign in to Luno.

Inactivity and dormancy fees

If you had an outstanding balance in your account after the communicated deadline, this incurs a $2 USD monthly inactivity fee, starting September 2026.

The continued storage of these funds are also subject to a monthly dormancy fee in accordance with our terms and conditions, charged as follows:

  • December 2026 - May 2027: $50 USD per month
  • June 2027 - November 2027: $100 USD per month
  • From December 2027 onwards: $150 USD per month

How do I claim my funds?

If you have funds remaining in your account, you can contact our support team to withdraw them to your bank account.

Please provide us with a bank statement of an account in your own name issued within the last three months so that we can return your funds to you.

On your bank statement, we’ll need to be able to clearly see the following:

  • Bank name
  • Name of the account holder
  • Bank account number

You can attach your bank statement in an email to support@luno.com
