You may have received a notification that Luno will no longer be providing services in your region from 1 September 2026. This article explains what is changing, the key dates to be aware of and the steps you may need to take.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and understand this may be disappointing news.
Important deadlines
| Date | What’s happening? | Details |
| 1 June 2026 | You won’t be able to add additional funds to your account. | Deposits, buying and receiving crypto are disabled. You can still sell, withdraw and send crypto. |
| 29 June 2026 | Your final chance to send crypto. | After this date, only withdrawals to your bank account are possible. You won’t be able to send crypto to another wallet or exchange. |
| 31 August 2026 | Final bank withdrawal deadline | Last day to sell crypto and withdraw all funds to your bank account. |
| 1 September 2026 | Permanent account closure | Accounts are closed. You will no longer have access to your Luno wallet. |
What you need to do
Before your account closes, there are two ways to move your funds before the deadlines:
Option 1: Send crypto out (before 29 June)
- If you want to keep holding crypto on another platform or wallet, you can transfer it by 29 June 2026.
- After this date, crypto sends will be permanently disabled and you will no longer be able to transfer crypto out of your Luno account.
- If you miss this deadline, your only option will be to sell and withdraw the funds to your bank account.
- Blockchain network fees will apply.
- Keep in mind there may be a 24 hour security window to enable sends.
Tip
Visit this help article to learn how to send cryptocurrency.
Note that we don’t support sends for some cryptocurrencies. Check supported cryptocurrencies and transfer networks.
Option 2: Withdraw to your bank account (by 31 August)
- You can sell your crypto on Luno and withdraw the funds to your bank account by 31 August 2026.
- After this date, selling and withdrawals will be disabled.
- If you are unable to withdraw before the deadline and your remaining balance is above the minimum threshold (USD $10 equivalent), you’ll need to contact our support team to assist with a manual withdrawal. Please attach a recent bank statement or letter to verify that the account you want to withdraw to belongs to you.
- Note: from September 2026 onwards, Luno reserves the right to charge a monthly inactivity/dormancy fee for holding funds on your behalf.

Sending crypto: guides from other platforms
You can send your crypto to any exchange or wallet that supports the same cryptocurrency. The options below are commonly used examples. Luno does not endorse any specific platform, please do your own research before proceeding.

Wallets:
Keep in mind
Always use the correct network when sending crypto. The receiving platform must support the same blockchain network. Sending to the wrong address or using the wrong network may result in permanent loss of funds. Before sending any large amounts to a new wallet address, it’s best practice to perform a test send first.

Frequently asked questions
Should I request an account closure myself?
No, Luno will close your account automatically on 1 September, so making this request would be an unnecessary extra step for you. In fact, if you have no funds in your account, you don't need to take any action at all.
How do I verify my bank account to make a withdrawal?
You may have trouble verifying your bank account in the Luno app if you've never withdrawn to that account before. In some regions, we require a deposit to verify accounts, so you'd be blocked from doing this if deposits aren't available in your region anymore.
To fix this, please get in touch with our support team to request bank account verification. Once we've verified the bank account on your behalf, you'll be able to proceed with withdrawing funds.
Note
When making your request, please attach a recent bank statement or letter (issued within the last 3 months) that clearly shows your name and bank account details.
Can I continue using Luno with dual citizenship?
If you hold citizenship in another country where Luno is available, you may be able to keep using your account by re-verifying with documents from that country. Please contact our support team with your dual citizenship documents, and we’ll review your case and advise on the next steps.
What happens to my rewards and referrals?
Any rewards you have already earned will be released and credited to your account before it is closed, with any applicable holding periods lifted. All pending rewards will also be credited to your wallet and can be withdrawn before 31 August 2026.
What happens to small remaining balances?
If your remaining balance is below the equivalent of USD $10 in your local currency, we are unable to process a withdrawal due to minimum transaction thresholds.
In line with our Terms of Use, any remaining balances below these thresholds will be retained after 1 September 2026.
What if my account is closed and I still have funds?
If your account has been closed and you still have a remaining balance above the minimum threshold (equivalent to USD $10), we can process a manual withdrawal for you.
Please contact our support team with the following:
- Your registered email address
- Your verified bank account details
- If you don't have a verified bank account on your Luno profile: a recent bank statement showing your full name and account details
Manual withdrawals are processed within 3–5 business days once all information is confirmed.
Note: Luno may charge a monthly inactivity/dormancy fee for holding funds on your behalf after September 2026.
What happens to my active buy orders or recurring buys?
All recurring buys and pending orders will be cancelled as of 1 June 2026, and no further charges will be made.
How can I get my wallet statements?
You can follow this guide to download a statement for any of your wallets. If you need to get your statement after your account has already been closed, reach out to our support team for assistance.
Why did Luno make this decision?
Going forward, we want to focus on our core markets across Africa and South East Asia. This decision was not taken lightly and we sincerely apologise for the disruption.
