Most Luno customers don’t send cryptocurrency out of their wallets regularly. They use Luno to simply buy, sell, or store their cryptocurrency. For this reason, and for added protection, cryptocurrency sends are disabled by default when you sign up for Luno.
Before you send cryptocurrency, you need to enable sends first. Once you’ve sent cryptocurrency, we highly recommend disabling sends again if you don’t plan to send more soon.
Why should I disable crypto sends?
While crypto sends are disabled, an attacker won’t be able to send cryptocurrency right away if they manage to get into your account. To protect your funds, there’s a long waiting period (between 24 hours and 14 days) before sends become enabled. This buys you valuable time to report any unauthorised activity and secure your account.
How do I disable sending cryptocurrency from my wallet?
- Sign in to Luno
- Select Profile from the menu, then navigate to Security
- Select Send cryptocurrency
- Press the DISABLE SEND button
- You’ll be prompted to confirm this step
Great! You’ve secured your cryptocurrency by disabling sends.
How do I enable sending cryptocurrency again in the future?
Simply go back to Profile > Security > Send cryptocurrency to re-enable sends. You’ll need to confirm that you understand the risks, authorise the change via SMS or push notification, then wait for sends to become enabled on the date and time shown to you.
Note
Once you’ve sent your cryptocurrency, you should disable sending cryptocurrency again if you won’t be sending any more soon.
Luno will never encourage you to enable sends or instruct you to send cryptocurrency to another wallet address. Beware of scams.
