Does this apply to me?
This applies to customers with Luno accounts verified in Malaysia, South Africa and Nigeria.
To further enhance account and transaction security, Luno is introducing an additional security layer for customers sending cryptocurrency. These changes are designed to better protect your account and funds by requiring passkeys or two-factor authentication (2FA) when:
- Enabling sends, and
- Completing a send transaction
These new requirements help protect your account from unauthorised access and reduce the risk of successful fraud attempts.
What is changing?
Going forward, you will need at least one of the two security measures to enable sends or complete a send transaction.
If both passkeys or two-factor authentication (2FA) are set up, passkeys will automatically be used as the authorisation method because they offer a faster and more seamless experience.
What you need to do
To avoid any disruption when sending crypto, we strongly recommend following these steps:
- Update your Luno app
- Set up passkeys (recommended for the best experience)
- Or, enable two-factor authentication (2FA)
Once this update is made, if you enter a send flow (to enable sends or complete a transaction), you will be asked to authenticate using Passkeys or 2FA. If your app version is out of date, you will see an error message prompting you to update before you can continue.
Why this is important
These changes will improve the security of authorising send actions from your account even if someone else gains access to your device or login information. By completing these security steps, you’re helping protect your crypto and keeping your account safe.
