Once you've signed up with Luno, you’ll need to complete your profile before you can add a crypto wallet. A wallet is like an account, and each crypto coin you buy in will have its own dedicated wallet.

How to create a crypto wallet with Luno

On your Wallets screen, you’ll see your local currency wallet. This wallet is for fiat currency: the deposits you make from your bank account will show up here.

But we know you’re not on Luno just to have a local currency wallet – that’s what a bank account is for! It’s time to add some crypto wallets to your portfolio.

There are two ways to create a crypto wallet with Luno

Pick the option that best describes what you’re looking to do next:

To get started: select BUY near the top of your Wallets screen.

When you buy any cryptocurrency for the first time, a wallet for that coin will be created automatically.

Any future transactions you make with that same cryptocurrency – buying some more, selling it, sending it, or receiving it – will happen in that wallet.

In some countries, you can buy multiple cryptocurrencies at once. When you buy a coin combo, we’ll automatically create a wallet for any of the coins in that combo that you haven’t owned before.

Tip

If you need more help buying crypto, follow one of these guides to learn how to:

To get started: select RECEIVE near the top of your Wallets screen.

You’ll be prompted to choose which cryptocurrency you’d like to create a receive address for.

A receive address is a long string of letters and numbers, also represented as a QR code. It has the same function as a bank account number: you can share it with others to let them know where exactly they can send crypto payments to you.

If you’d like to receive crypto that you haven’t bought on Luno before, we’ll automatically add a wallet for that new cryptocurrency when you create your receive address.

Important

Each receive address only supports one type of cryptocurrency. If someone sends an unsupported cryptocurrency to that address, those funds could be lost.

It’s best practice to make a small test payment first before attempting to receive any large crypto transfers. Follow this link to learn more about which crypto you can send to Luno.
