The following fees and limits apply for Luno accounts verified in South Africa.

If you make a cash deposit, you'll be charged a fee of R20.00 plus 5% of the amount deposited. Cash deposits are prohibited by our Terms of Use, and any Luno account that receives more than one cash deposit may be suspended indefinitely.

Normal withdrawals will reflect in your bank account up to 2 business days after Luno processes them (sooner with Standard Bank).

Express withdrawals will arrive in your bank account on the same day. If your bank is an RTC (real-time clearing) participant, the withdrawal fee is R20.00. Otherwise, it’s R80.00.

Verifications levels and limits

You can find out what verification level you’re on by going to your Profile and selecting Settings. Under Verification, you’ll see Level 1, Level 2, or Fully verified.

Exchange tiers and fees

The fee you pay when buying or selling crypto on the Luno Exchange depends on your total 30-day trading volume, whether you’re placing a taker or maker order, and what type of pair you’re trading.

Your 30-day volume is calculated once per day by summing up all of your trading activity across all markets on the Luno Exchange platform over the last 30 days (converted to your primary currency). You are then assigned a fee tier based on this total 30-day volume according to the table below.

When placing an order on the Luno Exchange, each currency pair (or market) has minimum and maximum volumes and prices you can set.

Volume refers to the size of the order you can place, applicable to all order types.

Price refers to the range within which you can specify the price for an order. It does not apply to market orders, which are automatically set at the current market price.

Tokenised stocks

Customers verified in South Africa can buy tokenised stocks or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on Luno. The trade cost you pay allows us to facilitate your trade instantly at a guaranteed price.

Bundle fees and limits

Bundles are a collection of some of the largest cryptocurrencies and/or tokenised stocks. They automatically rebalance once per quarter to reflect market changes. Here are the fees and limits involved:

Note

When you sell your bundle, the sell fee is combined with the pro rata rebalancing fee. In other words, you’ll pay 1% of the amount being sold, plus whatever portion of the 2% rebalancing fee has accrued by the time you sell.

Staking fees

Staking enables you to earn back a percentage of your staked crypto for contributing to the continued operation of proof-of-stake blockchains.

The staking service fee is taken as a percentage of the rewards you receive from the blockchain. In other words, each reward payment sent to your Staking Wallet will have already had this fee deducted from it. The Annual Rewards Percentage (ARP) you see before you stake also takes this fee into account – so the ARP is your estimated earnings after the deduction.

Luno does not charge a fee when you stake or unstake your cryptocurrency.

Prediction markets

Buying or selling your position: Limitless fee

Prediction Markets on Luno are powered by Limitless, a peer-to-peer decentralised exchange operating on the blockchain. When you buy or sell your position, Limitless charges the following adaptive fees as part of their Prediction Markets service on the blockchain:

Buy Fees range from just 0.03% to 3% — the higher the probability of event, the lower the fee.
Sell Fees start at 0% and gradually rise to 1.5% as the event probability approaches 50%.

Limitless dynamically adapts their fee based on several factors, including the probability of the outcome (higher risk = higher fee). Visit Limitless to learn more about their adaptive fee structure.

Successful prediction payout: Network fee

If you make a prediction successfully, you’ll get a payout sent to your USDC Predictions wallet via the blockchain. This transfer incurs a dynamic network fee that the blockchain protocol calculates based on how busy the network is.

Crypto payments

Luno Pay

In South Africa, you can pay for goods and services with your Luno crypto wallet by scanning a QR code. This is currently only available at Pick n Pay stores nationwide.

Fee: Free of charge
Limits: The minimum transaction amount is R1.00, and the maximum is R100,000.

Send fees

Luno charges a dynamic fee for crypto sends. The only exceptions are:

XRP has a fixed 0.03% send fee

You’ll always see the exact fee amount before confirming you want to proceed with the transaction.

Dynamic fee explanation

Blockchain fees, which are not controlled by Luno, increase and decrease depending on how much demand there is on that blockchain.
Your dynamic send fee is calculated based on the up-to-date blockchain fee, plus Luno’s operational costs for processing your transaction.
During periods of high demand, when the blockchain fee increases, the fee you pay for sending crypto increases as well. If the fee were too low, your transaction could become delayed – or even stuck indefinitely – while the blockchain’s nodes validate all the other transactions that paid them more.

These limits form part of our anti-financial crime measures, and they are in line with best practices in the industry.

If you’re receiving Bitcoin and the amount received is lower than BTC 0.00000546, an equivalent fee will be charged to combat dusting attacks.
