How do I deposit money?

You can learn how to deposit local currency funds into your Luno account by watching the video or following the steps below. If you need more detailed instructions for making a deposit in your country, see the payment methods per region section below.

Here's how to deposit money

  1. Open the Luno app and sign in

  2. Select Portfolio from the menu

  3. Choose your local currency wallet

  4. Select DEPOSIT

  5. Choose the method with which you’d like to top-up your wallet

  6. And follow the on-screen prompts from there

Payment methods per region

The deposit options available to you might differ depending on which country your Luno account is verified in. Find more detailed instructions for your country below.

In Australia, you can deposit money directly into your AUD wallets using a bank transfer (a method that could be instant, depending on the speed of your bank), or you can make an instant deposit with PayID, which should reflect within a few minutes (however, some banks may hold first-time deposits for up to 24 hours).

Alternatively, you can buy cryptocurrency with Instant Buy without having to add money to your local currency wallet first.

In the United Kingdom, you can make a deposit to your GBP wallet via online banking, which can take up to 24 hours to be processed (longer over weekends, public holidays, and when you make a deposit after hours). Once we’ve received your deposit, we’ll automatically add it to your GBP wallet, and notify you via email.

Alternatively, you can buy cryptocurrency with Instant Buy without having to add money to your local currency wallet first.

When making a deposit, please make sure that you’ve deposited from a local bank account in your own name, using the deposit reference (starting with BX or LN).

In Malaysia, you can make an instant deposit using FPX or your Touch ‘n Go eWallet.

The following types of deposits are not accepted, and once we have the necessary information, it will be returned to the depositor:

  • Third-party deposits (made from a bank account not in your own name). This includes deposits from company/ business bank accounts owned by you

  • Cash and cheque deposits

  • Deposits from debit and credit cards

  • Foreign currency deposits or deposits from foreign bank accounts. We only accept MYR from local MYR bank accounts

In Indonesia, you can make a deposit via bank transfer through an ATM, internet banking and mobile banking almost instantly. There are zero fees when depositing funds to your IDR wallet.

Tip

You can use your once-off account number to deposit from any bank. If you’re making an over-the-counter transfer, enter ‘Luno Indonesia Ltd’ as a beneficiary name.

In Nigeria, you can make a deposit by purchasing a voucher or by making a bank transfer (which will reflect in your NGN wallet in 30 minutes).
